Skin behaves differently in the Gulf. You move between 40°C humidity outdoors and dry, chilled air indoors several times a day, and both extremes pull at the skin barrier from opposite directions. A routine that works in a mild climate often fails here — usually because it is either too heavy for the heat or too stripping for the air conditioning.
Here is a simple structure that handles both.
1. Cleanse gently, not aggressively
Sweat and sunscreen need to come off, but foaming cleansers that leave skin squeaking are the fastest way to a compromised barrier. A gel or milky cleanser removes the day without stripping it. If you wear sunscreen and makeup daily, a double cleanse in the evening is worth the extra minute — an oil or balm first, then your regular cleanser.

2. Hydrate in thin layers
Heavy creams feel unbearable in summer, so the trick is layering lightweight products rather than piling on one thick one. A watery essence or hydrating serum first, then a light moisturiser to seal it. Humectant ingredients such as glycerin and hyaluronic acid pull water into the skin; the moisturiser on top stops the air conditioning from taking it straight back out.
3. Do not skip moisturiser because your skin feels oily
Oily skin in humidity is often dehydrated skin working overtime. Skipping moisturiser tends to make it worse, not better. Choose a gel-cream texture instead of dropping the step.
4. Sun protection is the whole routine
If you only do one thing consistently, make it daily SPF. UV levels in the Gulf stay high year round, including in winter and on overcast days, and glass does not block UVA — so the drive to work counts. Reapply if you are outdoors for long stretches.
5. Add actives slowly
Retinoids, exfoliating acids and vitamin C all work, but introducing several at once in a hot climate is a reliable route to irritation. Add one product, give it a few weeks, then decide. If skin stings or flushes, pull back to cleanser, moisturiser and SPF for a week and rebuild.
A starter routine
Morning: gentle cleanse → hydrating serum → light moisturiser → SPF.
Evening: remove makeup and SPF → cleanse → treatment (if using) → moisturiser.
That is it. Consistency beats complexity, especially in a climate that is already asking a lot of your skin.
